"Racism is not a video game, it's real. We can't be silent now. Take the megaphone and fight racism"

More than 20 times the African American shouts "I can't breathe" before he was killed by brutal police violence on May 25, 2020. While Corona is still forcing a lockdown, we have to remember the problem with police violence in the USA and also worldwide. Protests started, people all over the world showed solidarity and said: It can't go on like this.

The installation around the Blacklivesmatter movement is an illustration of the development since the killing of George Floyd. While the person in the bathtub watches the Corona news, the message reaches him via Twitter. By reaching for the megaphone the water is activated, shooting through a pipe system and against a ball. The ball in turn makes the wooden plates fall down like dominoes, with the writing "#BLM" on it and falls to an action camera, which in turn falls into the barrel. Finally this last fall will release the balloons

MEGAPHONE

as a sign of protest, resistance and encouragement to society. As an object which should appeal to solidarity. The direct grab of the megaphone is supposed to represent the direct action after the death of George Floyd

WATER

Water as our conducting element, will be the "barrel to overflow" following this event. As in the other events, water is therefore always present, but was shown more and more in the course of the events.

BATHTUB

We staged the bathtub to illustrate the controversial situation for active demonstration. While Corona keeps people in quarantine and the society communicates via social media it is practically possible to become active in a bathtub.

WOOD

The wooden boards with the lettering "#blm" are meant to remind of demonstration signs and trigger the final scene.

ACTIONCAM

The camera films and documents what will happen. As social media can capture everything that happens in the world. By falling into the water could also mean the statue of Edward Colston, which was thrown into the water by protesters, and thus to a worldwide dismantling of monuments of racist persons.

BALLOONS

What can happen after the last object falls into the barrel?
Is it the last drop to the overflowing barrel? While the balloons represent diversity and cohesion, they rise up and give a vision of a future based on solidarity.
